Finding itself at South Africa ’s northernmost area and bisected by the tropic of Capricorn, visitors to Limpopo can expect sunshine, long summer afternoons and dry days for most of their stay.
With almost all year-round sunshine, it can get rather hot in the summer months (October to March) averaging 27ºC.
Don’t be surprised to find late afternoon growing heavy with clouds and you can expect short thunderstorms. Winter is typical of the interior highveld plateau. A sunny season of chilly, early mornings, warm middays, dry afternoons and cool to cold nights.-Perfect for hunting!
In general the weather of Limpopo will greet you with a hospitable display of sunshine and reserve.
All Africa Hunter’s are met at O.R Thambo International Airport . ( Johannesburg int.) and are transported to base camp (Thabazimbi area) which is a approximate 3 hours drive away.
While all possible precautions are taken to protect you against accidents, sickness or any other loss, no liability can be accepted in these regards.
Each of the professional hunters carries a first aid kit and has some medical experience.
Proper Medical facilities are also available within an hours drive!
You are therefore required to arrange your own personal, travel, hunting and medical insurance.

Valid Passport, entry visa, US customs form registering your weapon in the US , SAP 520 supplied by outfitter for temporary import of firearm, motivation letter, Invitation letter from outfitter etc. These travel documents will be issued to you on confirmation of a booking.
Customs clearance will be at your port of entry to SA. You will be issued with a temporary import/export permit for you firearm at this point. No permit is required for a bow. Most clients bring their own firearms, though these can be hired from Africa Hunter’s.
What to bring
Our temperatures during May-July are crispy cold during the late afternoons, the evenings and early mornings.
Additional clothes are optional and can be brought along at your own discretion.
- Lightweight raincoat. (We know it seldom rains during May through August, but on the off chance it does it is always a good reason to be prepared. )
- Battery operated alarm clock.
- Personal medication.
- Insect repellant (August-April)
- Sun screen (odorless)
- If you like to keep a journal, then bring one along.
- Premium grade ammunition (60 rounds per caliber is the maximum. 40 rounds are suggested)
- Rifle.
- Cleaning kit for your rifle.
- Soft case for when traveling between hunting properties.
- Enough film or memory sticks for your camera. You are welcome to bring along a camcorder/video camera.
- Binocular.
- Range finder (optional)
- Hunting clothes for at least three days.
- Personal toiletries.
- Chap stick.
- A set of clothes for shopping purposes.
- A warm jacket for winter (April-August)
- Beanie, a scarf and gloves.

The Gre at North Road from Pretoria was first carved by the creaking wheels of ox wagons. Limpopo celebrates a rich cultural heritage and at many archaeological sites the mysteries of the past are still being discovered. Historians reveal that the first black Africans moved across the great Limpopo before 300 AD. The Voortrekkers arrived in Limpopo in the early nineteenth century and numerous battles between the indigenous African people and the Voortrekkers took place. Then, during the apartheid regime, portions of the land in Limpopo were divided up into what then became known as 'homeland' areas. Happily, today Limpopo is united in its aim to offer the best p ossible welcome to all who visit this spectacular region of South Africa
The northern section of the Kruger National Park which is located in Limpopo, is renowned for its large herds of elephant and buffalo, significant numbers of tsessebe and sable and a rich bird life. On the park's western border, excellent privately owned game reserves and lodges offer luxurious, air-conditioned accommodation and day and night game viewing in open 4x4 vehicles. The mountainous area of the Waterberg is also home to numerous Limpopo game reserves, proving a rewarding experience of wilderness country.
The Soutpansberg range, one of the most spectacular regions of South Africa, should be explored at leisure by following at least one of the forest trails. Beyond the mountains, mopane trees and giant, ancient baobab trees dominate the plains sweeping northward to Zimbabwe . Many natural heritage sites in the area are accessible to visitors. There are 340 indigenous tree species here, an abundance of animal life and the world’s highest concentration of leopard.
